Seven Yield’s Siem Newton has completed her scheduled dry docking, incorporating a ducktail stern extension and hull surface treatments designed to reduce hull resistance, improve fuel efficiency and lower associated emissions.
Acquired by Seven Yield in 2026 as one of three second-hand vessel additions, Siem Newton is a Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) built by Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry in China and delivered in 2006. With a nominal capacity of 4,888 car equivalent units (CEU), her fixed and hoistable vehicle decks provide cargo intake flexibility across passenger vehicles, high-and-heavy units and other rolling cargo.
The principal modification was the installation of a ducktail extension to increase the vessel’s effective waterline length and improve the hydrodynamic characteristics of the stern. The modification is intended to reduce resistance and the propulsion power required at a given service speed, supporting lower fuel consumption and emissions.

The dry docking scope also included smooth blasting of the entire hull, followed by the application of a low-friction hull coating. These works complement the stern modification by improving hull surface smoothness and reducing frictional resistance.
The project was delivered through close coordination with Siem Shipping and Houlder Ltd throughout the engineering, preparation and dry docking phases.
The completed works reflect Seven Yield’s continued investment in the technical performance of its fleet, with targeted upgrades intended to improve operating efficiency and support the long-term employment of its vessels.
